Mendham and Withersdale have entered a petanque (boules) team into the Adnams Coastal Petanque league this year using the new ‘piste’ built last year from the most active village award money.

From initial interest from villagers in a meeting back in January a team has been formed, practices have been held, equipment organised, rules learnt and so far two league matches played.

We lost the 1st match 4-0 to friendly but strong opposition played at Fressingfield, but after further practice we surprised ourselves with some excellent performances to win the 2nd match 3-1 played at Huntingfield. So far both have been away, but our 1st home match is planned for the 30th April should you wish to come along to support starting around 10:30.

The games are played in pairs format and a match team consists of between 4 to 8 people, (each person either playing one or two games – four games in total per match). Selection is partially rotational and thus all team members, no matter what ability, will be getting a game!

We are keen to increase the size of the team squad, so if you are interested in playing petanque for the M&W team please see/contact Granville Brown (team captain) in Mendham on 01379-852700, or John Brownfield (vice-captain) in Withersdale for more details.

Please note the league games are played on a Sunday, usually in the late morning/early afternoon. Team practices are usually arranged most weeks and are currently on either Tuesday or Thursday afternoons.
